International workshop on Virtual laboratory testing and Micromechanics

This workshop aims to bring together the top researchers in the world within DEM research with world leading wind energy industry partners. The workshop should allow to link academics and industry to identify potential funding for applied research. The workshop will specifically target the use and dissemination of virtual laboratory tests using the state-of-the-art LS-DEM (level set - discrete element modelling). The LS-DEM is a novel and powerful tool in engineering that can be used to simulate material behaviour based on micro scale to describe the macro behaviour. The workshop should make the industry aware of the LS-DEM as a valuable tool for solving industry problems, related to foundation design in wind energy sector. This numerical tool is a relatively new tool that is now heavily used in research,but hasn't found its way. Aim of NGI is to act as a bridge and link between the industry and research, as we are actively involved in both.
