Gender and Ancient Archontic Literature (GAAL): Reading Ancient Texts as Fan Fiction

Awarded: NOK 74,999

"Archontic literature" refers to texts that link back to existing texts, expanding their "archives" through new stories. Modern fan fiction is a prominent example of archontic literature, but so are many ancient texts, including parts of the Hebrew Bible, its Near Eastern predecessors, and the many early Jewish and Christian texts that built upon it. Reading these texts as all part of the same phenomenon will create an innovative new lens for understanding why and how the Bible and other ancient texts were composed.
