Risk Governance of Nanotechnology Conference “Future-proof Approaches for Risk Governance – Lessons Learned from Nanomaterials”

Awarded: NOK 99,999

Project Number:

342419

Project Period:

2023 - 2023

Subject Fields:

As coordinator of the H2020-NMBP-13 project RiskGONE (Science-Based Risk Governance of Nano-Technology), NILU is organizing an international conference addressing future challenges in risk governance of nano- and advanced materials. This activity is carried out in collaboration with the other two projects funded under the same call, NANORIGO and Gov4Nano. The event represents the final joint conference of the NMBP-13 cluster that is approaching the final stage of implementation. Thus, the main aim of the conference is to ensure that the outcomes of the NMBP-13 projects are conveyed to relevant stakeholders and taken up to support the implementation of the Chemical Strategy for Sustainability (CSS) and address future challenges in risk governance of new- and advanced materials. By doing so we will help shaping international approaches to addressing future challenges in risk governance of nano- and advanced materials. This includes safe- and sustainable by design (SSbD) and harmonisation and standardisation. The conference will be hosted by OECD at its Conference Centre in Paris on the 24th and 25th January 2023, and foresees the participation of representatives from NGOs, industry, research organisations, EC, EU Member States and experts from the OECD WPMN who are involved in ongoing initiatives related to the CSS and/or (risk) governance of advanced materials. During the conference interactive roundtables will be used to present and discuss with this broad international audience of relevant stakeholders the key results and recommendations originated from the NMBP-13 projects. The outcomes from these discussions are expected to complement and support the work of other stakeholders and initiatives on risk governance of nano- and advanced materials, specifically on themes related to harmonisation and standardisation, data management (and FAIR data), accessibility of tools, instruments and guidance via an online portal, and effective organisation of risk governance.
