Special Core Analysis (SCAL) is a combination of laboratory and mathematical techniques used to analyze tests made on core samples that are taken from subsurface reservoirs. SCAL is important to obtain critical information about reservoir properties and fluid flow behaviour, these techniques can have a significant impact on reservoir management processes; important areas of application are: Oil & Gas production, and subsurface storage of CO2 & Hydrogen. This project aims to develop a multi-modular software solution for special core analysis (SCAL) and carry out a market demand analysis to improve its market readiness. This digital solution will be designed to provide a user friendly environment with enhanced data assimilation and interpretation for SCAL engineers. This new digital toolbox can improve the analytical evaluation for SCAL routines by reducing simulation times, increasing the confidence in the results and lifting the data interpretation capabilities beyond prior art.

In the project, we have added new processes for SCAL, expanding the portfolio. We have also presented the work to the industry, receiving positive feedback and opening up possibilities to integrate our processes into an industry reference simulator. Additionally, we have advanced further in the patenting process. Other synergies have emerged, such as the establishment of new professional relationships between the lead researcher and industry, which could lead to future projects. During the course of the project, two new initiatives were discussed that involve collaboration between academia and industry. For example, the main researcher has received invitations to participate in joint industrial projects using the processes created, training courses, and new PhD projects.
