The Arctic tundra is currently undergoing rapid changes with thawing permafrost and changing vegetation. One of the most pronounced effects among the vegetation is a shift towards taller plant communities and higher biomass, which can lead to increased evapotranspiration and drier soils. Methane fluxes and especially consumption rates in experiments simulating a future Arctic vegetation regime are lacking. Therefore, in this project, we will investigate the response of methane consumption to a future Arctic vegetation change.
