The Sensor Decade

The Sensor Decade 2024 is the second edition of this conference, with the first successfully held in 2022, as part of Oslo Science City Arena. It is a technical conference with exciting speakers from industry and the research sector. To involve students, we also have The Student Expo, led by Startup Lab. It will take place 5-6th June 2024, at the University of Oslo (see programme attachment and website: https://sensordecade.com/ ). The conference is support by 3 cash-contributing industrial partners – Sony Norge, Kongsberg Discovery and Tomra ASA. The theme of this year's conference is "Pushing Sensor Limits", which fits very well with the NFR theme "Enabling Technology". There is no sustainable solution without data from the physical world, we will focus on sensors that are challenged due to demanding environments or ambitious design constraints. The laws of physics are being pushed to their limit, measuring challenging physical processes and systems, and sensors are the foot soldiers of the digitalisation front. They are operating at ocean depths of 6000m, in demanding splash and coastal zones, in mines and wells, in jet engines, on the moon and all the way to Mars. Each year, we strive to achieve more: wearable/implantable sensors that handle inter-human variation, sensors surviving at 200oC, ultra-low power sensors, microsensors for microrobots, sensors with 40-year lifespan, sensors crunching extreme data amounts on the edge, and monitoring vast volumes or areas. In essence, sensors are the only way to capture the pulse of the real world and feed it into the digital domain. These technologies are essential for realising the digitalisation of the physical world and maximising the potential of Artificial Intelligence. Sensors will play as essential role in clean and safe mobility, energy-efficient industry, the protection of our ecosystems, and sustainable healthcare.
