The PhD project focuses on developing the next generation autonomous drilling rig. This machine operates in tunnels and mines worldwide and is used to drill holes in a "drill and blast" operation, advancing the tunnel or mine further.
The drilling rig is equipped with three arms, each with its own drill. These can operate simultaneously, drilling multiple holes at the same time. A system that is controlling the arms automatically to the desired drill holes without colliding with each other will be developed. This will reduce the operation time of the drilling process. The system will also estimate the position and orientation of the rig relative to the tunnel. The drilling holes, defined in the drilling plan, will be aligned with the position and orientation of the rig to ensure that the holes that are drilled are according to the plan.
The project will create a solid foundation for the machine to gain self-driving capabilities, contributing to increased efficiency and a safer working environment for operators.
Hensikten med prosjektet er å utvikle neste generasjon autonome borerigg. Maskinen vil muliggjøre en mer effektiv, sikker og miljøvennlig boreoperasjon.
