We want to develop and pilot a next-generation snow and water monitoring system underpinning a new hydropower energy forecasting platform (H2OASIS). Based on a combination of novel sensor stations for in-situ data, satellite data, and unique machine learning-based optimized data fusion, the solution aspires to increase hydropower production by 0.75-1.5% from reduced spilling and optimization in light of regulated minimum downstream water flow. Optimized knowledge about snow and water conditions is also crucial to enhance hydropower regulation capability as new challenges arise with more dynamic operating patterns. This insight is also sought for energy hedging strategies. The new offering will be based on the application of four new technologies: * Innovative sensor microstations * Data logger * Satellite data * Algorithm development and analytical tools delivered as a cloud service The combination of these four novel technologies in an end-to-end system will result in a breakthrough innovation within the field of hydropower and renewable energy forecasting, outperforming any solution currently on the market. Also, reducing field work related to manual data gathering has positive implications on HSE risks.
