The EuronanoCaps Project Establishment Support has the following summary:
We are developing a technology for supercapacitors electrodes using interconnected cross-linked carbon nanotubes as the active electrode creating a porous film with effective electrode area from 10 000 to 100 000 larger than a flat electrode area. The starting point of the R&D work is the achieved results from more than 15 years of research performed by the founders of nanoCaps in their work as professors at University of South-Eastern Norway. The incoming R&D work is highly innovative giving disruptively better supercapacitors with improved performance at lower cost than industry-best supercapacitors with activated carbon as the active electrode film. Performance merit examples are research lab results with specific area capacitance around 2 500 milliFarad, expected to be improved beyond 3 500 milliFarad in this project, compared to present industry-best around 650 milliFarad, giving more than doubled specific energy and power densities. The supercapacitors electrodes will be developed, fabricated and tested by nanoCaps. partner NRGeer will do simulation work, and partner Dormakaba will develop and test an electronic door lock with the fabricated supercapacitors as a system integration demonstrator.
In the Eurostars proposal, nanoCaps will be the coordinator, with NRGeer from Italy and Dormakaba from Switzerland as partners.
