Energy efficiency is a main concern for a wireless terminal (WT) to ensure its sustainable operation. To support mobility, the WTs are often powered by batteries, which require frequent charging or replacement. This not only disrupts the normal operation of the WTs but also is inconvenient for the users. For applications where sustainability and autonomy are important, continuous energy supply becomes a severe problem.
The CEHOW project is based on our Norwegian patent, “Method and System for Controlling an Energy Harvesting Operation in a Wireless Terminal Device” granted by the Norwegian Industrial Property Office . The patent discovers new approaches for integrating wireless energy transmission into existing wireless technologies, allowing users to charge their wireless devices while connecting to the internet. The innovation opens new development of wireless communication technologies and wireless terminals.
The CEHOW project consists of two main phases: investigate the commercial potential of our research results and design a prototype for our proposed technology. Throughout the project period, we conducted numerous experiments involving energy harvesting and data transmission over radio frequencies in different wireless technologies.
The project has the potential to reduce waste from discarded batteries in wireless devices, contributing to environmental sustainability. It also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal?3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and Goal?12 (Responsible Consumption and Production)
1) Outcome: The project achieved two main outcomes:
- Investigate market interest in our proposed energy harvesting technology.
- Develop a prototype of the technology.

- Reduce waste incurred from used batteries in wireless devices, contributing to environmental sustainablity
- Make wireless devices smaller and enhance user experiences
- Contribute to UN sustainable development goals including Goal 3 (Good health and well-being) and Goal 12 (Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns).
