Internasjonalisering

Systemic designers—academics, practitioners, and researchers—collectively contribute to furthering systemic design as an interdiscipline that joins systems thinking to design methodology. The aims of the RSD collection include supporting an international knowledge-sharing network of systemic designers. Symposium as RSD13 will contribute to the understanding of systems and how to design them for the cases of emergency and crises, thus contributing in creating innovative approaches, models and practice on how to tackle such challenges. This on the other hand will share the best practices among the experts, government officials, practitioners, researchers, and third sector to name a few. All these themes handled in the conference are systemic, influenced by crisis and risk. Thus, it is important to recognize how we, by design, improve social systems to change these systems in a positive way. 

The main events will take place in 2024, but the related operations will continue till spring 2025. This is why costs are distributed between the last quarter of 2024 and the first quarter of 2025.

Relating Systems Thinking and Design Symposium (RSD13)

By step-change EURAD-2 means a new era via a more effective and efficient public research, development and demonstration (RD&D) in Europe, and a deepening of research cooperation between MS having different radioactive waste inventories, and with programs at various stages of development. 

The scope of EURAD-2 builds upon the achievements of EJP EURAD-1 and EURATOM PREDIS. At a strategic level it is structured by the EURAD-1 Roadmap, while the prioritized scope refers to the updated Strategic Research Agenda (SRA)6. EURAD-2 continues to collaboratively develop, maintain and consolidate at the European level the scientific and technical basis of RWM, including disposal.

The scope of EURAD-2 includes scientific and technical activities on all steps (from “cradle to grave”) of RWM:
- Radioactive waste inventory including steps to minimize final radioactive waste to be managed;
- Radioactive waste characterization & processing (including pre-treatment, treatment and conditioning);
- Interim storage of radioactive waste; and
- Disposal solutions – with the main focus on geological disposal of spent fuel, high-level waste (HLW) and long-lived intermediate level waste (ILW).

Specific RD&D required for near-surface or surface disposal and low-level waste (LLW), will be addressed.Nuclear facility dismantling and decommissioning activities are however excluded, although interfaces, and particularly aspects that impacts final disposal could be considered.

The project aims to connect with the wider European Community through, e.g., SNETP, NEA, DigiDECOM community, IGDTP, IAEA, ENSREG, ERDO Association,  and will encourage interaction between different national programmes.

EUROPEAN PARTNERSHIP ON RADIOACTIVE WASTE MANAGEMENT 2 (EURAD-2)

In this seminar, Simula invites participants from the private and public sectors to explore big picture questions at the intersection of technology and society; questions such as how are emerging technologies challenging and transforming cyber security? And how might this impact national security and sovereignty?  

By featuring experts like Roar Thon (Norwegian National Security Authority) and Prof. Olav Lysne (Lysne Utvalget III), this seminar will feature important updates on the current and likely future state of cyber security and national digital infrastructure control in Norway. Simula researchers will provide state-of-the art insights on emerging technologies relevant to digital security, including quantum cyber security (Prof. Carlos Cid, Simula UiB) and malicious AI (Prof. Michael Riegler, SimulaMet). Participants will also learn about best-practices for ML-operations from a security perspective (Thorvald Ballestad, Simula Consulting), and the importance of security culture at Vipps from John Arild Johansen (CISO, Vipps). 

This event is designed to be accessible to both professionals and non-professionals, ensuring a wide understanding of the evolving landscape of cyber security. The seminar aims to encourage the adoption of advanced security practices and policies, and to foster interdisciplinary collaboration by bringing together contributors and participants from academia, industry and the public sector to explore emerging digital security measures and threats in the Norwegian context.

Simula Seminar: Emerging Topics in Cyber Security

Potetskrell, et biprodukt fra industriproduksjon av potet (pommes frites, flak, chips mm.) er en råstoff ressurs som kan bli bedre utnyttet til nye formål. Skrellet er nemlig en rik kilde på antioksidanter, stoffer som planter naturlig har i seg for å beskytte mot skadelige UV-stråler og reaktive forbindelser som oksygen radikaler. Antioksidanter behøver vi også å tilsette i matvarer for å beskytte og ta vare på umettet fett så det ikke blir harskt og vondt i kontakt med luft. I dag brukes flere ulike syntetiske stoffer i matvarer for å hindre oksidasjon av fett og oljer. Men det er reist bekymring rundt sikkerheten for bruken av dem. Matvareindustrien, myndigheter og forbruker ønsker derfor å fjerne flere syntetiske antioksidanter og erstatte dem med naturlig alternativer. Det er imidlertid svært få slike produkter som er godkjent og tilgjengelig på markedet. Prosjektet Peel Preserve, som har et klart bærekraft mål, skal vise om et uttrekk av antioksidanter laget på industrielt potetskrell råstoff kan fungere som konserveringsmiddel og erstatte noen av de stoffene som brukes i dag. Tre næringsmiddelbedrifter skal teste potetskrell-ekstraktet i noen av sine produkter og utføre både interne og eksterne analyser på effekten. Men en viktig forutsetning for at potetantioksidant kan tas i bruk som nytt tilsetningsstoff i mat er at det blir godkjent av den Europeiske matsikkerhets myndigheten (EFSA) og gitt et E-nummer. Prosjektet skal igangsette denne lengre flertrinns godkjennings prosessen. Parallelt skal det utvikles en forretningsmodell og nødvendig beskyttelse rundt teknologien. Dersom industrien etter testingen av potetantioksidanten, vurderer denne som er god erstatning til konkurransedyktig pris, og en EFSA-godkjenning kan oppnås på sikt, åpner det for å kommersialisere et naturlig plante-basert produkt til beste for forbruker og for miljøet. Bak prosjektet Peel Preserve står Høgskolen i Innlandet i samarbeid med Nofima og Klosser Innovasjon.

Preserving foods with potato peels: Industry-relevant validation and first regulatory assessment of a new natural antioxidant

Blue Bio Boost tar sikte på å bidra til bærekraftig økonomisk utvikling av makroalgeindustrien ved å forbedre effektiviteten av formering og utvalg av egnede genotyper (mål 1), ved utnytte genetisk variasjon samtidig som potensialet for genetisk forurensning av naturlige populasjoner minimeres (mål 2), og ved aktivt å involvere interessenter i arbeidet med en plan for fremtidig makroalgeavl i Europa (mål 3).

Blue Bio Boost vil undersøke to alternativer for å unngå påvirkning på naturlige bestander på grunn av kryssing av dyrkede og naturlige bestander; (1) en "mix-to-match"-tilnærming der vi dyrker blandinger av genotyper som egner seg for dyrking og som har allelfrekvenser som ligner på allelfrekvensene i de lokale naturlige populasjonene, og (2) teknikker som kan bidra til avl av forbedrede genotyper og produksjon av sterile alger for dyrking i fremtiden.  En bred og representativ gruppe av interessenter vil bli etablert og delta både i utformingen av en strategi for fremtidig europeisk avl av makroalger med fokus på økonomiske og økologiske mål, og som en formidlingskanal.

Macroalgal biomass has multiple uses and is recognized as a target for increased production in Europe. In order to boost the growing seaweed industry, it is necessary to better utilise the genetic variation to increase yield, quality and stability of the cultivated crop. The current macroalgae cultivation practice in Europe starts every year from new seeding material, obtained directly from local natural populations. There is no selection of the most suitable genotypes, and no storage of seeding material. Hence, no genetic progress in terms of yield and quality is obtained in the cultivated material over time. This is in sharp contrast to virtually all land-based crop production, animal husbandry and fish aquaculture, where domestication has led to selection of genetic material with cumulative improvement of desired traits. There is, however, concern about the potential spread and mixing of domesticated macroalgae with natural populations (introgression), and the ecological consequences this may have, including erosion of the present natural genetic diversity. Blue Bio Boost will investigate two options to avoid impact on natural populations; (1) a “mix-to-match" approach where we cultivate mixtures of superior material with allele frequencies similar to those of the local natural populations, thus attempting to circumvent the problem of introgression, and (2) techniques that could facilitate breeding of improved genotypes and production of sterile sporophytes in the future. A broad and representative Stakeholder Engagement Group (SEG) will be established and function both in co-design of a strategy for the future European breeding of macroalgae focusing on economic and ecological objectives, and as a channel for dissemination activities.

SBEP - Boosting seaweed farming through better utilisation of genetic resources

Dagens matsystemer står overfor mange utfordringer, der klimaendringer er en av de største. Sjømat spiller en nøkkelrolle i overgangen til bærekraftige og næringsrike matsystemer. Sjømatforedlingsindustrien fører med seg betydelige sidestrømmer, som ofte kastes eller er underutnyttet, og som er rike på bioaktive forbindelser for høyverdige markeder som nutraceuticals og funksjonelle matvarer. Prosjektet har som mål å øke effektiviteten og ressursutnyttelsen av eksisterende sjømatsystemer (remove the - that was in this word) og fiskerier gjennom verdiskaping av sidestrømmer til næringsrike matvarer med høy verdi ved hjelp av grønn teknologi. Verdiskaping av biprodukter fra prosessering og en overgang til sirkulær økonomi bidrar til den fysiske og økonomiske motstandsdyktigheten til EUs sjømatforedlingsverdikjeder, samt til miljømessig og økologisk bærekraft i sjømatindustrien. FOODIMAR har som mål å utvikle innovative, kostnadseffektive og klimavennlige metoder for å produsere høykvalitets marint kollagen, gelatin og GAGs (glycosaminoglycan) for å imøtekomme behovene til industrien og forbrukerne. Dette vil oppnås gjennom utforskning av tre EU-piloter: Hvitfisk fra Nordsjøen, maneter fra Østersjøen og havabbor fra Middelhavet. I tillegg fokuserer FOODIMAR på utviklingen av verktøy og retningslinjer for å vise det økonomiske potensialet til disse ressursene i en klimasikker sektor.

The project aims to increase the efficiency and resource optimisation of existing seafood systems and fisheries through seafood side-streams valorisation into high-value-added nutritious food using green technologies. The valorisation of processing by-products and a shift towards a circular economy contribute to the physical and economic resilience of EU seafood processing value chains, as well as to the environmental and ecological sustainability of the seafood industry. This will be achieved through the exploration and characterization of bioactive compounds sourced through 3 EU pilots: North sea whitefish, Baltic sea jellyfish and Mediterranean seabream. Additionally, FOODIMAR focuses on the development of tools and guidelines to showcase the economic potential of these resources in the context of a climate-proof sector. The FOODIMAR concept centers around three main pillars: (1) maximizing the utilization of seafood side-streams and by-catch to reduce food loss; SINTEF Ocean will be responsible of the value chain mapping from the 3 seafood pilots as well as the complete chemical and quality characterization in order to identify the most relevant raw material for each pilot (2) raising the value of seafood side-streams by transforming them into high-value products, rather than low-value applications or waste; Laboratory gelatin and collagen peptide extraction from the most relevant raw material will be conducted by SINTEF Ocean by following yield of the process as well as quality of the final product (3) promoting capacity building and the development of business models to foster the growth and reinforcement of the seafood side-stream valorization sector;

SBEP - FOODIMAR, sustainable climate-Friendly quality fOOD Ingredients from Marine side-stReams

I 2017 fikk EU-kommisjonen gode råd fra en gruppe vitenskapelige rådgivere om hvordan høste mat og biomasse fra havet uten å skade fremtidige generasjoner. Rapporten fremhever bærekraftig høsting og dyrking fra lavere trofiske nivåer som en viktig del av løsningen. EU mener sirkulær mat- og fôrproduksjon er avgjørende for å kunne nå bærekraftsmål, ressurseffektivitet, klimatiltak, en biobasert økonomi og matsikkerhet.
Norsk havbruksnæring har som mål å ha en årlig vekst på 4,4 %, og anslår 5 millioner tonn laks pr år innen 2050. Dette fører til et betydelig fôrunderskudd. I dag utgjør fôret 75 % av norsk laks sitt klimaavtrykk, og over 90 % av ingrediensene importeres. Geopolitiske hensyn nødvendiggjør kortere og sikrere matforsyningskjeder. Den norske regjeringen understreker behovet for økt produksjon av fôr for å styrke matsikkerheten, øke bærekraften og utvikle en mer klimavennlig matproduksjon. Utvikling av nye metoder for masseproduksjon av organismer fra lavere trofisk nivå er viktig for å møte behovene i oppdrettsnæringen.
Krepsdyret Gammarus er en av disse lavtrofiske organismene. Dette lille krepsdyret har en unik evne til å konvertere råvarer av lav kvalitet til høyverdig protein og omega-3 med en riktig ernæringsmessig sammensetning og er godt tilpasset som fôrråstoff; fosfolipider, proteiner med gunstige aminosyreprofiler, karotenoider og andre antioksidanter, vitaminer og mineraler. Forskningen ved SINTEF Ocean har vist at Gammaridaes kan dyrkes på ulike sidestrømmer fra biobaserte næringer som restråstoff fra landbruk og havbruk. SINTEF-teamet har utviklet kunnskap om pilotproduksjon av Gammaridae biomasse. 
Basert på lovende forskningsresultater er det kommersielle målet å industrialisere produksjonen, og dermed skape en ny og levedyktig kilde til fôrråstoff i store mengder for at havbruksnæringen skal kunne vokse på en bærekraftig måte.

Dyrking av skjell har mange miljømessige, økonomiske og sosiale fordeler som gjør at det blir en stadig viktigere komponent i den globale blå bioøkonomien. Lav-trofisk akvakultur er mer bærekraftig og miljøvennlig enn annen akvakultur, siden den har lavt karbonavtrykk og positive effekter på økosystemer. Allerede nå opplever skalldyrnæringen store utfordringer knyttet til direkte og indirekte effekter av klimaendringer, og disse er ventet å øke i framtida. 
Hovedmålet til Shellfishboost er å utvikle og optimalisere avanserte verktøy for selektiv avl og for å estimere genetiske parametre for nøkkelegenskaper (tilvekst, varmetoleranse, salt-toleranse, sommerdødelighet og algetoksiner).
Shellfishboost fokuserer på blåskjell (Mytilus edulis og Mytilus galloprovincialis), muslinger (Ruditapes philippinarum og Ruditapes decussatus) og østers (Ostrea edulis og Crassostrea gigas) i Norge, Italia, Portugal og Spania.
De norske aktivitene i prosjektet inkluderer genetikk og algetoksiner på blåskjell i Norge, og gjennomføres av Nofima i samarbeid med Norgeskjell. Nofima deltar også i arbeidet med å utarbeide et genetisk verktøy for slektskapskontroll.

Bivalve aquaculture has become increasingly important sector of global blue bioeconomy in recent years due to its numerous environmental, economic, and social benefits. Shellfish farming is considered sustainable and environmentally friendly compared with other aquaculture species as it is low trophic, has a very limited carbon footprint, and it provides  multiple ecosystem services. Shellfish production is already facing major challenges due to direct and indirect effects of climate change and such challenges will become even more serious in the future. The long-term goal of ShellFishBoost is to mitigate the effects of climate change on the bivalve production with the ultimate impact of protecting and developing a vital blue bioeconomic sector in Europe.The main objectives are the development/optimisation of advanced tools for genetic selection and the estimation of genetic parameters for key traits (growth, resistance to heat-waves, salinity stress, summer mortalities, and presence of harmful algal toxins). A third major objective is the co-creation of best practices for selective breeding in each target species, together with industrial partners of ShellFishBoost and other relevant stakeholders(producer associations and other bivalve hatcheries). WP1: develop and optimize advanced tools for genetic selection. WP2: estimate genetic parameters and identify QTLs for disease resistance in oysters and clams. WP3: estimate genetic parameters and identify QTLs for resilience to climate-related challenges in oysters and clams. WP4: estimate genetic parameters and identify QTLs for reduced  toxin accumulation in mussels. WP5: co-create best practices and strengthen the capacities for selective breeding in bivalves. ShellFishBoost embraces the approach based on the "Theory of Change”.

Boosting the resilience of European shellfish production against climate change related challenges through genetic selection

Adaptation to climate change requires in-depth understanding of climate change driven risks, including their determinants (hazards, exposure and vulnerabilities) and impacts to human, production and natural systems. Integrated Research Infrastructure Services for Climate Change Risks (IRISCC) is a consortium of diverse and complementary leading research infrastructures (RIs) covering disciplines from natural sciences to social sciences, across different domains and sectors. IRISCC provides scientific and knowledge services to foster cutting-edge research and evidence-based policymaking to improve Europe's resilience to climate change. IRISCC ensures a “one-stop-shop” for various user communities on climate change risk related RI services by setting up a dedicated Catalogue of services and related access management system both for granting transnational (onsite and remote) and offering virtual access. The Catalogue of services will be built through three consecutive releases, each delivering increasingly integrated services to its user communities. The IRISCC service integration will include Service Design Labs employing co-design and transdisciplinary action, and Service Demonstrators benchmarking the integrated cross-RI services. In addition to services aimed towards the scientific community, IRISCC will offer knowledge services aimed towards policymakers and other stakeholders. This is done together with risk management platforms. The research enabled by IRISCC contributes to future reports on climate change effects (IPCC, IPBES) as well as policy- and decision-making to meet the targets of climate adaptation strategies. IRISCC contributes to training a new generation of scientists to efficiently use RI services and for data stewardship. Data from IRISCC will be open and made available in compliance with FAIR principles and linked to European initiatives such as EOSC. Strong links will be created between IRISCC and current and future efforts under Horizon Europe.

Integrated Research Infrastructure Services for Climate Change risks

Å oppnå de globale bærekraftsmålene krever tekniske, institusjonelle og sosiokulturelle forandringer. SmallFish4Food-prosjektet tar for seg SDG2 (oppnå matsikkerhet og bærekraftig landbruk), SDG3 (reduser mødre- og spedbarnsdødelighet) og SDG14 (fremme bærekraftig bruk av marine ressurser). Fisk er imidlertid usynlige i strategier for å oppnå SDG2 og 3, og ernæring og matsikkerhet er ikke fokus i SDG14. Våre terrestriske og akvatiske miljøer produserer like mengder organisk materiale, men vi høster bare 3 % av maten fra sistnevnte. Fiskeri er en viktig økonomisk aktivitet i Afrika og livnærer 200 millioner gjennom mat og inntekt. Mange afrikanske bønder er deltidsfiskere. Fisk er den desidert største kilden til høstbart protein, og det unike næringsinnholdet i fisk spiller en betydelig rolle i å bekjempe den tredoble byrden av sult, mangel på mikronæringsstoffer og ikke-smittsomme sykdommer. Likevel er ikke fiskens kvaliteter anerkjent i den globale matsikkerhetsdiskursen, og fisk er fraværende i strategier for bekjempelse av næringsmangel. Småfisk er tallrike og mest produktive men ses på som en ressurs med lav økonomisk verdi, som ofte reduseres til fiskemel brukt i dyrefôr. SmallFish4Food søker å forbedre disse mangler i våre matsystemer ved å bygge videre på resultatene fra LEAP-Agri SmallFishFood-prosjektet, og engasjere samfunnet til å "transformere sosiokulturelle, økonomiske og institusjonelle barrierer i fiskens verdikjede, så vel som tekniske innovasjoner, for å forbedre bærekraftig utnyttelse av småfisk for Afrikas lavinntektsbefolkning.» Dette prosjektet er finansiert gjennom den internasjonale utlysningen SDG Pilot Call, et samarbeid mellom 11 finansieringsbyråer fra Europa, Afrika, Asia og Latin-Amerika. Målet med utlysningen er å akselerere oppnåelsen av SDGene, gjennom implementering av resultater fra pågående eller nylig avsluttede forsknings- og innovasjonsprosjekter for å fremme kunnskapsbasert oppnåelse av SDGene, fra lokal til regional skala

The SmallFish4Food consortium is a multidisciplinary research team from Norway, the Netherlands, Kenya, Tanzania, and South Africa, covering the fields of fish stock assessment, processing, marketing, nutrition, and governance. We will enhance the food security discourse by focusing on the nutritional value of small indigenous fish species. We aim for transformation to ecological sustainability and food security by investigating how socio-cultural, economic, technical, and institutional transformations of the fish value chain can improve the utilisation of small fish resources for Africa’s low-income population. The fact that the nutrients in fish can play a significant role in combating the triple burden of hunger, micronutrient deficiencies and non-communicable diseases is the baseline of the project. However, the unique qualities of fish are seldom recognized in the global food security discourse and are missing from nutrient deficiency strategies among disadvantaged groups. Small fish are ubiquitous in all aquatic environments from large marine ecosystems to seasonal ponds, as well as in marketplaces and low-income household diets, but their significance is underrated and little understood as they are consumed locally and often go unrecorded in catch statistics. Catching small fish, which are sun-dried and consumed whole, is the most high-yielding, eco-friendly, low CO2-emission animal food production system available. However, a range of social, technical, economic, and legal barriers inhibits the full potential of utilizing small fish. This project is funded through the international call SDG Pilot Call, a collaboration between 11 funding agencies from Europe, Africa, Asia, and Latin-America. The aim of the call is to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs, through the implementation of results from ongoing or recently finalised research and innovation projects to advance knowledge-based achievement of the SDGs, from local to regional scale.

REMAP har analysert reformen av EUs energi- og klimapolitikk i 2019 med hovedfokus på endringer i kraftmarkedsdesign for engrosmarkedet og dets konsekvenser for handel med kraft til og fra Norge. Et effektivt og integrert kraftmarked har vært et viktig politisk mål for å realisere høyest mulig samfunnsmessig verdi av norske fornybare energiressurser. Prosjektet har analysert og forklart de viktigste endringene i EU-regelverket. Hovedhypotesen er at endringene reflekterte markeds- og fordelingsvirkninger av eksisterende lovgivning, hvordan ulike land og aktører formidlet disse effektene inn i utvikling av det nye lovverket, og gjennomslagskraften til ulike aktører i ulike faser av reformprosessen. Til slutt har vi analysert hvordan endringene påvirker verdien av kraftutveksling mellom Norge og EU.

Sentrale regulatoriske endringer er identifisert ut fra hvorvidt de representerer et brudd med målmodellen for økt markedsintegrasjon som fulgte av EUs lovgivning i 2009, inkludert viktige prinsipper som ikke-inngripen i markedspriser og ikke-diskriminerende adgang til nett og markeder på tvers av land. Flere av endringene støtter opp om og forsterker målmodellen: f.eks. markedsbasert prissetting av fornybar energi og at nettselskaper ikke kan påvirke markedsprisene (sluttbrukerpriser kan kun reguleres under visse betingelser). Andre regulatoriske endringer støtter opp om målmodellens prinsipp om ikke-diskriminering, f.eks. kan medlemsstatene ikke lenger særbehandle fornybarprodusenter. Samtidig ble det satt kortere budfrister for å gjøre det lettere for produsenter av variabel fornybar kraft å delta i markedet.

Målmodellen forutsetter harmonisering av regler for drift av markedsplasser og nett, såkalte nettverkskoder. Reformen omfordelte ansvaret for utvikling av kodene: ACER fikk utvidet sin rolle og EU-kommisjonen overordnet myndighet for budområdeinndelingen hvis berørte medlemsland ikke blir enige. Intensjonen med overføring av oppgaver til institusjoner på EU-nivå var mer effektive beslutningsprosesser og mer harmoniserte regler. Andre forslag ble ikke vedtatt, som nye beslutningsregler for ACER og å gi nye regionale nettorganisasjoner utvidet makt i å vedta regionale regler.
På den andre siden avviker noen av endringene fra målmodellen. Mens nettselskapene tidligere måtte gjøre maksimum kapasitet på mellomlandsforbindelser tilgjengelig for kraftutveksling, ble et nytt minimumskrav på 70% innført sammen med krav om internasjonal mothandel og endring av budområder hvis 70%-kravet ikke etterleves. Et annet brudd med målmodellen er at nytt regelverk gir åpning for å subsidiere kraftverk dersom disse er viktige av hensyn til forsyningssikkerheten.  

Analysen støtter hovedhypotesen. Reformen var i stor grad begrunnet i hvordan iverksettelsen av 2009-reguleringene påvirket kraftmarkedet. Særfordelene for fornybar kraftproduksjon økte systemkostnadene og ga utilsiktede markedsvirkninger: Store volumer fornybar energi med prisstøtte og prioritert innmating i nettet ga fallende og mer variable priser i engrosmarkedet, inkludert perioder med negative priser uten at det ga insentiver til redusert produksjon, og utfordret nettstabiliteten. Lavere priser gjorde det også ulønnsomt å opprettholde eksisterende ikke-variabel kapasitet. For å hindre at kraftverk som var viktige for forsyningssikkerheten ble nedlagt, innførte flere land ulike kapasitetssubsidier. 

Nettselskapene maktet ikke å følge opp med tilstrekkelig forsterkning av interne nett, med økte flaskehalser som følge. For å beskytte innenlandske produsenter og holde systemkostnadene nede, valgte mange nettselskap å innskrenke handelskapasiteten på mellomlandsforbindelsene. Det er bakgrunnen for gjennomslaget for 70%-kravet. 

Vi har til slutt undersøkt konsekvenser av nye EU-regler for handel med kraft fra og til Norge og muligheter for verdiskaping fra norske kraftressurser. En kontrafaktisk analyse viser at kombinasjonen av økt utvekslingskapasitet og økt fornybarproduksjon har vært samfunnsøkonomisk lønnsom for Norge. Utviklingen i markedene rundt oss peker generelt mot økte muligheter framover. Den ambisiøse omstillingen av kraftsystemet til fornybar energi og elektrifisering gir økt etterspørsel etter norske fornybare kraftressurser og muligheter for import i perioder med overskuddsproduksjon i utlandet. Den nye EU-lovgivningen sikrer økt kapasitet til handel på mellomlandsforbindelser sammenlignet med observert kapasitetsutnyttelse, men det gjenstår å se hvordan medlemslandene iverksetter den nye lovgivningen. EUs satsing på grønt hydrogen kan både representere en konkurrent til og en mulighet for økt verdiskaping basert på norsk fleksibel kraftproduksjon. 

Andre jokere som vil påvirke norsk kraftsektor fremover er følgene av Brexit og hvordan medlemslandene responderer på ny EU-lovgivning, herunder hvilken rolle lokale energisystemer og fleksibilitetsmarkeder får som alternativ til nettinvesteringer og handel i engrosmarkedet.

This project studies reform of EU internal energy market design and renewable energy policies in 2019: drivers, output, and impact on Norways trade-based energy policy strategy. We investigate EU influence on Norwegian policy stemming from how EU policy is implemented in other countries with effects on the IEM and thus opportunities for electricity trade from and to Norway. We further investigate how experiences in the market caused by past EU and national policies have fed into the recent EU reform, and subsequent implementation of new policies (with market implications) in EU Member States. The main research questions posed in the project are: How can we assess and explain the policy output of the EU IEM/renewable energy policy reform package? How can we assess and explain energy policy development in selected EU member states? How will the reform impact Norways cross-border trade-based energy policy strategy via market impacts stemming from implementation in other countries? The cross-disciplinary research team of political scientists, economists and legal professionals have developed a novel approach to analyzing Europeanization - how EU policy may affect this national policy strategy not only directly (through legal pressure) but also indirectly, via policy adaptation in other countries, that subsequently will affect the common market that the Norwegian policy strategy depends on. The project also contributes to the growing literature on what role past policy experiences play in reform of EU policies, by studying feedback from past policies on reform via impacts on the market and market actors.

Reform of EU Internal Energy Market Policies: Implications for the Norwegian Energy Policy Strategy

The project deals with the change of childhood in 20th century's Norway and with the images of childhood reflected in Norwegian children's literature of this time. Do the literary pictures correspond with "reality" or do they differ from it? Which images  of childhood can be found in Norwegian children's literature?
A comparison between the fictitious worlds in children's literature and the "real" world seems to be of particular relevance, because the images in the worlds of fiction form our sight of child hood. Above all it is the children's books that develop our idea of how childhood has to look like. As grown-ups we still carry those images in mind.
	In children's literature research it has often been declared that children's literature isn't up-to-date  and preserves values of a time gone, because the authors use their remembrances of their own childhood and therefore don't show a modern picture of childhood. Does the reader always get images of childhood that date back at least one generation, or does  children's literature nevertheless reflect the changes in childhood? Is there children's literature that is ahead of its time?
	I'm proceeding on the hypothesis that there is Norwegian children's literature that is modern in its description of childhood a nd that there are authors who write about changes before they have taken place. I will analyze how these changes in childhood are presented in ca. 35 Norwegian children's books from the 20th century. For that purpose I will compare the literary images of  childhood with the real development in Norway. To describe how children really grew up in the 20th century, I will use secondary literature from different relevant fields, e.g. historical works as well as sociological studies To get a more complete image  of historical childhood, I will use other sources in addition (e.g. statistics, newspaper articles, photography).

The lost paradise? Images of Childhood in 20th Century's Norwegian Children's Literature.

With the research in the Museum of Cultural History (Oslo), my objective is to classify the cylinder-seals, seals and gems held there. These objects were collected by Baron Plato von Ustinow in the 19th century. This collection counts more than fourty cyl inder-seals, seals and gems coming from the Ancient Near-East, mainly from Palestine, Mesopotamia, Syria, and the Iranian areas. These unpublished objects have not been exhibited. Moreover, their documentation and classification has not been prepared duri ng more than a century. The collection counting ancient Babylonian, Syrian, Cypriote, Palestine, Moabite and Sassanian material dates from the second millennium BC to the 5th century AD.

By the invitation to research-agreements signed by Dr. Frode Iverse n (Head of the Department of archaeology) and Dr. Marina Prusac (Associate professor, Keeper of the Antiquity collection) on the 25th of March 2009, I have been commissioned to prepare the documentation, drawings and the publication of the cylinder-seals,  seals and gems. On the request of Dr. Marina Prusac, I have already started to classify these objects using their photos sent by e-mail. I did thorough background work during the previous research pertaining to this topic available in Hungary (i.e. the c ategorization of the seals) in preparation for a future research.
I would like to continue my work with these objects in order to finish this research in the Museum of Cultural History (University of Oslo). 

The Yggdrasil Programme would ensure the possi bility to study directly this material. I wish to complete the iconographical and material analysis during the planned one month research in Oslo. Moreover, I wish to make the drawings of this material. With the scholarship of the Yggdrasil Programme, I c ould complete the second part of the treatment of this material in Oslo. The main purpose of this project would be the publication of these objects.

Examination of unpublished cylinder-seals, seals and gems of the Antiquity collection in the Museum of Cultural History (University of Oslo)

The proposal is part of the the NFR project no 178683 "Violence, poverty and police corruption" for the period period 2007- 2009. Jens Christopher Andvig is project leader. Involved researchers are me and Amit Shrivastava from the Norwegian Institute of I nternational Affairs (Norsk Utenrikspolitisk Institutt (NUPI) in Norwegian), Odd-Helge Fjeldstad from Christian Michelsen's Institute and (now deceased)Omar Azfar from John Jay's College, CUNY.
Specifically, within this propject, the present proposal aime d at analysing at analyzing the consequences of street level reports of corruption (police corruption) and crime on the level of development, using International Crime Victimization Surveys. The focus will evauate the impact of police corruption on the le vel of development, education and health as well as the interactions with criminal activities.

Crime, police corruption and development: evidence from victimization data

The project concerns with movements and continuity of life for indigenous peoples, specifically Teetl"it Zheh Gwich"in, and critically asserts conventional ethnographic and anthropological research through focusing on "mundane" themes such as wood, trails , cabins, texts, and policies. Using the notion of narratives, this project attempts to bridge material culture studies, apprenticeship studies, linguistics, and political ecology together in a more holistic way and follows Tim Ingold"s argument that pers ons and things grow alongside each other.
   The project is based upon fifteen months of fieldwork with Teetl"it Zheh Gwich"in in northern Canada. During this fieldwork, I anticipated in everyday activities in and outside of the community of Fort McPherso n. These activities included working with the Gwich"in Social and Cultural Institute, attending political meetings, hunting, trapping, fishing, cutting wood, video-documenting cultural programs, participating in social activities, building a log cabin, an d living in a Gwich"in household. 
   Through these experiences, the ethnography challenges previous anthropological work that has often neglected "mundane" themes and has often provided a biased picture of indigenous peoples. Trails, wood, and cabins nar rate particular skills and knowledge which the Gwich"in are attentive to and aware of. Furthermore, Gwich"in have been using texts for political and religious purposes. These texts also narrate skills, knowledge, and being-in-the-world and have been consi stently ignored in most of the ethnographic work conducted amongst the Gwich"in. 
   This project attempts to draw the attention of anthropologists to "mundane" themes and bridges several studies and theories that have become problematically separated. Th e ethnography attempts to establish renewed methodological techniques in which attentiveness and awareness are products through the processes of making and living and working with indigenous peoples.

Dwelling with Power: an ethnography with Gwich'in Harvesters

Vertebrate Muscle Segment homeobox genes (Msx) control development. Their functions in post-natal growth and homeostasis remain unexplored. The present project is dedicated to Msx2 in post-natal tooth and bone oral physiopathology. 
Arjeta Agailiu thesis  (directed by Pr. Ariane Berdal) aims to provide the molecular phenotype profiles of forming cells for dental tissues and associated bone, as well as their regulatory pathways relied to Msx2. A transgenic Msx2 knock-in mouse line is used. Msx2-/- mice exhi bit pleiotropic defects in the skull, tooth, alveolar bone and several epithelial mesenchymal systems. Msx2 targets will be identified by comparing alveolar bone transcriptome in Msx2 -/-, Msx2 +/- and Msx2 +/+ mice. In Paris, a dozen of effectors (enamel  proteins, RANK ligand, BMPs) have been identified as Msx2-targets by a « gene by gene » strategy.  But, this method does not permit to discover unknown pathways. This project will provide original results with cDNA microarrays and bioinformatic analysis  of affected pathways, routinely performed by the Oslo group.
Indeed, nowadays, the global transcriptome approach is the gold standard strategy to delineate molecular basis of distinct biological processes. Oslo team has already applied this strategy to de velopment in oral cells (mouse molars germs and salivary glands). This bilateral project is focused on overlapping Paris/Oslo team interests (transcription factors, non coding RNAs, oral physiopathology). In Paris, we have developped microdissection proto cols. Oslo team is interested in developping this approach to cellular subpopulations (ameloblasts, odontoblasts, alveolar bone osteoblasts) issued from Paris skill.
Our overall aim is to facilitate mutual exchanges and built-up a collaborative program to  be submitted to EEC funding application. A one-month support is required for analysis of Msx2 pathways in the Institute of Oral Biology, under the direction of Pr. Harald Osmundsen.
