There is an increasing demand for new analytical high-speed techniques, which can measure components at low concentrations of environmental samples. Miniaturisation is a key word when it comes to development of such new techniques. The environment is cons tantly receiving new pollutants from human activities, often with functions and in concentrations escaping detection by standard environmental control measures. New screening methods require higher selectivity and higher sensitivity, preferably of sample sizes smaller than needed today. In this project an on-site measurement method for screening of organic compounds in water samples based upon novel miniaturised liquid chromatographic technologies will be developed and implemented. For identification of organic compounds in water, method s based upon on-site preconcentration sampling with subsequent transfer of the samples to a laboratory with advanced instrumentation like microLC-MS will be developed.
