Sammendrag Increased international competition makes it crucial for industry to utilise raw materials as efficiently as possible. In all situations the focus is to produce stable and high quality end products for as low price as possible. This is a compl ex task, which needs competence in many areas such as for instance consumerneeds, raw material properties, industrial processing, rapid measurement technology and statistical/chemometric modelling. In the present project we will focus on how to use multi variate statistical methods to ensure optimal use of raw materials in development and production. A central focus will be on how multivariate statistical methods can be applied to ensure efficient use of rapid measurements of quality properties of the raw materials in optimisation and control. We propose to establish a network of research institutes (MATFORSK, AUN and CPAC) and major Norwegian companies (TINE, EWOS, Borregaard, Mills, Stabburet and Prediktor) to work on these proble ms. The network will comprise both classical network activities such as gatherings, courses and web site, plus more industry focused problem solving. Industrial post-docs and Ph. D. Students will be a central part of the project to ensure a efficient coll aboration between industrial partners and research institutes; they will work with methodological aspects and with practical problems directly related to indust ry needs. The results will be published in international and national journals and meeting.
