Passive climatisation

Tildelt: kr 3,5 mill.

Since the early 70’s, NTNU and SINTEF have conducted several research projects concerning passive solar buildings and passive climatisation. Several demonstration buildings have been designed, constructed and monitored. This experience, as well as a numbe r of international research projects, show that the use of passive and natural techniques for climatisation of buildings give better performance with respect to indoor comfort, energy use, investment-, operation and maintenance costs, as well as robustnes s and longevity. In this new project, we intend to draw on this knowledge and take the step further to integrate the different technologies and strategies into practical, marketable building concepts. The focus will be on cost-effectiveness, robustness, a nd user-friendliness. The project includes the following tasks: Subtask 1: Design concepts for passive climatisation: Passive cooling, daylight utilisation, natural and hybrid ventilation, passive design for reduced heating demand, utilisation of high ceilings and displacement ventilation. Subtask 2: Control strategies for passive climatisation. Subtask 3: Development of computer tools for passive design. Subtask 4: Pilot uildings. Subtask 5: Handbook. Subtask 6: Communication. Subtask 7: Dr.ing. study
