Granular Aggregates used in Road and Airfield Pavements (GARAP)

Tildelt: kr 4,2 mill.

This project will continue the work that was started in the KPG - project to develop reliable methods for laboratory testing and analyses of unbound granular materials used in pavements. To do this we need to evaluate the testing procedures and calibrate the material models for elastic stresses and strains and for the development of permanent deformations. The resulting testing and analyses tools will be used for evaluation of standard pavement designs, and further to study optimal use of unbound granul ar materials of various quality in different pavement layers. Emphasis will be put on making the results directly useful by developing computer programs that can easily be used in practical pavement design. The work in this project wiIl assist Norwegian quarry companies in documenting the high quality of their products and strengthen their position in the market for export of high quality crushed rock to European countries. The methods developed in this project will also be useful for design pavements including non-traditional materials like crushed concrete from demolition of buildings or insulation materials of light weight clay aggregate or foamed glass. This will contribute to an increasing environmental problem.
