In order to reduce the emissions of CO<sub>2</sub> to the atmosphere, and thus reduce the potential impact of greenhouse gases on the climate it is important to develop strategies for safe long term storage of CO<sub>2</sub> .
The main goal of this prog ram is to develop a numerical simulation tool that can be used to theoretically study the impact of CO<sub>2</sub> storage in aquifers. In addition to a state of the art flow description of CO<sub>2</sub> , and it's ionic dissociation products, in releva nt reservoir models the model will also include extra storage effects due to solids that formed through reactions with solid walls constituting the reservoir. Effects of hydrate formation on mass transport and long term storage is another unique part ofth e proposed project.
The program will also be used to extend the national and international network between UoB and other scientific environments in the fields of reservoir modelling and potential climate effects of CO<sub>2</sub> depositions to the atmo sphere.
