Processes governing air-sea CO2 transfer; an improved estimate for the North Atlantic

Tildelt: kr 1,4 mill.

The project focuses on the issues of accurate parameterisation of the air-sea exchange rate and small scale biasing of air-sea flux estimates, aiming to provide an accurate estimate of the air-sea flux of CO2 in North Atlantic, and its inter-an nual variability. The project intends to gain knowledge on direct covariance air-sea CO2 flux measurements, which along with the new research vessel of the University of Bergen and Institute of Marine Research, will for the first time allow us to quantify the exchange rate for air-sea CO2 gas transfer at northrn high latitudes. The research will be conducted in close collaboration with Truls Johannessen's group for Chemical Oceanography at the University of Bergen, and with the CO2 group at NOAA/AOML, Miami, USA, headed by Dr. Rik Wanninkhof.
