Thermodynamics applied to high temperature materials technology

Tildelt: kr 25,0 mill.

The project is planned to include support from metallurgical and chemical industries as well as petroleum and other industries where thermodynamics and high temperature materials technology are important matters. The work will be carried out in close co-operation with well-established international research groups as weIl as the Norwegian industry. The project is divided into four main tasks: - Database development - Coupling of thermodynamics to other generic disciplines (CFD, mechanics) - Information flow, internal and external seminars, international network - Stability of materials and evaluation of processes in high temperature systems. The most central R&D challenges in the project are 1) To develop powerful modeling tools for the Norwegian industry that includes thermodynamic, mechanic, kinetic and fluid dynamic aspects, 2) To develop reliable, consistent thermodynamic and physical databases relevant for the industrial applications and 3) To utilize the new modeling tools on relevant industrial problems. Separate, validated modeling tools for each of the diciplines are available. Combined they will give a prosperous future for design of complex process for the manufacture of advanced ma terials both for the large-scale industry and SME’s.
