Investigation of magnetic monopole and hairy black hole solutions without rotational symmetri in the Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs theory

Tildelt: kr 1,4 mill.

In the early universe radiation and matter is described through Grand Unified Theories that predict the existence of magnetically charged particles with very large masses: monopoles. In order to also take the gravitational interaction for the monopoles in to account, they have to be described within the framework of Einstein's General Theory of Relativity. This theory on the other hand makes an important prediction: the existence of black holes. The observation that a monopole can form a bound state togeth er with a small black hole has raised much interest. Such a monopole black-hole is not uniquely defined by its mass, charge and angular momentum, but proccesses further properties of the monopole. A hairy black hole proccesses non-trivial fields outside its event horizon that do not correspond to a global c harge. The examination of simple hairy black holes has lead to a deeper understanding of General Relativity. So far, only little is known about hairy black holes without rotational symmetry. The content of this project will be the exploration of this completely new kind of black holes. In this way we expect to be able to contribute to the understanding of General Relativity and in particular the theory of black holes.
