The project focuses on the commercialisation of information and knowledge within the framework of law and the market. It studies how public actors shape the market through law, and are themselves subject to legal restraints . We will further study how pri vate won can pursue their interests through contractual means, based on property rights and subject to the restraints of competition law. The project will study the role of the contract and contract rules in the commercialisation of knowledge and informat ion as well as more specific legal problems tied to legal protection of knowledge and information as such, including the interplay between competition law and intellectual property law . Other important interests in relation to production and utilisation of information and knowledge are access to information, freedom of expression, control over resources and power to decide over issues related to production and distribution of information . Such interests are tied to the roles of employees, consumers and citizens, and involve issues of distribution of welfare produced by the exploitation of information gathered from local communities, democratic influence through access to information, and ethical problems. A major objective is to examine intellectual pro perty rules and competition rules in the light of different interests .
