Analysis and numerics for Nonlinear Waves (NonWave)

The key idea of this proposal is to combine the modern theory of nonlinear partial differential equations with constructive numerical techniques to study rigorously important wave phenomena, many in the context of water waves. For several important nonlin ear partial differential equations of this type a numerical theory is lacking or incomplete. The project is built around two pillars: 1. Nonlinear convection-diffusion equations with discontinuous coeffi- cients. 2. Nonlinear wave-current interactions. T his pillar includes a variety of problems describing carefully selected water wave phenomena and extensions thereof.
