Radioactive contamination of the environment is a problem with potential implications for ecology and society. In the Arc-project, quantification of the temporal-spatial distribution of man-made radionuclides originating from atmospheric fallout from past atmospheric nuclear weapon testing, the Chernobyl reactor accident in 1986, the nuclear fuel reprocessing plants Sellafield and Dounrey (both UK) and La Hague (France), and from the Russian rivers Ob and Yeinsey will be performed. In the study, in situ o bservations will be bridged by state-of-the-art numerical ocean modeling to address the transport and mixing of the radionucliedes 129I, 134Cs, 137Cs, 90Sr and 99Tc in the Atlantic-Arctic Oceans for the period 1950 to the present. All results from the per formed hind-cats simulation will be made openly and easily available on a public web-page.
