Industrial Crystallisation and Powder Technology

Tildelt: kr 4,1 mill.

The aim is to develop knowledge and understanding of how crystallisation parameters influence the final particle characteristics and how to control bulk properties through the crystallisation step. The extent of nucleation, crystal growth, and agglomerati on determine the size and shape of the resulting particles. Size and shape are also two of the key properties in the processing of the resulting powders. Crystallisation processes are often optimised only with respect to the purity and the yield of the pr oducts, not taking into account the subsequent powder processing steps. This is already a problem in many conventional precipitation- and crystallisation processes and will be further challenged when new industries emerge based on the manufacture of nano- particulate materials. We base our research on model systems that display particle characteristics identified by our industrial partners as representative of their products. One system should be representative of reaction crystallisation processes determi ned by agglomeration of (nano-)particles. The second system will be one producing larger (and faceted) crystalline particles determined mainly by crystal growth.
