This project will study long-term and broad-scoped ethical and societal issues related to a diverse set of nanotechnologies. Its mode of work consists of combining ethical and philosophical analysis with a workshop methodology emphasizing slow and broad d ialogue between ethicists, philosophers, nano scientists and other disciplines (including social and clinical medicine and social science). From this methodological platform, it will apply perspectives from ethics; post-empiricist philosophy of science (i ncluding the idea of post-normal science) and science, technology and society studies to map broad-scoped issues, to study in depth two case studies: Indirect health effects of nanotechnology and the issue of dual use, unfriendly use, security and politic al stability.
