Method for energy reduction in acid gas capture processes

Tildelt: kr 1,0 mill.

This project proposal covers part 1 of a three stage project, leading to a new process for acid gas capture by absorption with the aim of drastically reducing the energy required. The main objective of phase 1 in this project is laboratory validation of the theoretical concepts of the described technology for reduced energy consumption in CO2 capture by absorption using a new desorption technology. The phase 2 is planned to be a laboratory pilot test using the results obtained in phase 1, and phase 3 will be used for industrial pilot scale field testing, possibly at Statoils testsite at K-lab at Kårstø. The objective of the total project is to commercialise the described technology . This application only concerns financing of phase 1 of the project . The present status of the project is that theoretical models describing the technology have been developed, and the potential for energy reduction has been estimated. Now laboratory tests will be performed to verify the theoretical models. The results from these laboratory tests will form the basis for further tests in a laboratory pilot.
