Kina - Methods in the management of environemental and natural resources and applications to China.

The project takes off from the need for Chinese academic and research communities to strengthen their ability to analyse issues related to economic and environmental stability of China on the background of the high economic growth and its consequences. T he projects emphasizes methods in the management of, say, energy and other natural resources, including scarcity measures, the valuation of resources, natural resources in national accounting etc. Not less important are methods for acquiring pertinent in formation about environmental issues as background for long-term policy choices, sustainability assessments, etc. through the kind of methods that fall under state-of-preference survey, contingent valuation et al. We do not limit too much at this stage th e content of the eventual project, beyond that it will falls within the broad area of environment and natural resources. In general the emphasis in the project will very much be on producing internationally publishable results. The project will be organ ized as two workshops, one in Fudan in the spring at which ideas will be aired and discussed, and one in the autumn in Oslo at which the project application will be an outcome.
