Comparative health systems research

In Nordic countries, hospital use differs among individuals, institutions, municipalities, regions and countries. In this project, these differences, and the determinants to these differences, will be addressed and analysed systematically. Hospital use am ong the general population, elderly citizens and groups of patients will be analysed in terms of LOS, number of hospital stays per 1000 population, and number of hospital days per 1000 population by using patient-administrative data from Norway, Sweden, D enmark and Finland. Hospital use will be analysed in relation to individual and social indicators and determinants on the organisational/institutional level, municipality level, regional level and national level.
