E-centre laboratories for automated drilling processes

Tildelt: kr 29,0 mill.

The introduction of large amounts of real time data communicated to onshore e-centers can improve decision making processes and cost efficiency both in the planning phase and during the operational stage. The new e-center working philosophy will lead to l arge changes. New roles, responsibilities and communication structures are to be expected and there is a need for developing new advisory software tools, visualisation systems, control rooms and working procedures which can improve decision making process es. In this project, the intention is to build laboratories/facilities which can mimic and be used as an experimental facility for studying the future e-center based working philosophy. Here, the development of new prototype software models, visualisatio n systems and human-machine interactions/communication structures will be studied and evaluated to optimise future control room designs. Such facilities can also provide a future environment for safe experimentation with automated drilling processes. This calls upon a joint effort by leading Norwegian R&D institutes. International Research Institute of Stavanger (IRIS) has long term experience with developing models for the drilling process. Institute for Energy Technology (IFE) has long experience in in vestigation issues related to interfacing of technology and people in various settings (HAMMLAB). Christian Michelsen Research AS (CMR) has developed visualisation systems for a number of application areas, including solutions for the oil and gas industr y. The project will lead to the development of new prototype drilling support tools to be used in a real time setting. New visualisation systems and recommendation for optimal control room designs in future e-centers will be given. Recommendations for wor king processes, automation and decision making processes will also be a result. The intention is that this project will aid in speeding up implementation of second generation e-center based drilling processes.
