HAVBRUKS-Havbruk - en næring i vekst

Pre-project on "Intel-feed" applied to marine aquaculture ?A nanotechnology approach.

Tildelt: kr 0,50 mill.

The development of an off-the-shelf microparticulate diet for small larval fish is one of the most important nutritional technologies needed by aquaculture that has not yet been fully developed. The main problem today is not so much nutritional compositio n, but that most of the water soluble nutrients leak out within minutes after release to the larval tanks. Technological advances developed in nanotechnology can be applied for the preparation of microdiets, which will result in better control of some of the particle properties both in the larval tanks and in the larval digestive system. Thus, in this pre project an "intelligent feed" ("Intel-feed") will be designed partially designed with desired some specific properties suitable for larval rearing of marine fish by encapsulation technique using nanotechnology . Released time of microalgae and chemo-attractans in the larval tanks will be evaluated when those nutrients are "coated " on the surphace of a encapsulated microdiet. The release properties of the attractants/microalgae from the particulate surface will be controlled by different types of bindings between the particle and the attractants/microalgae.
