Presently there is no direct export corridor for wet gas from Northwest Russia. Existing pipe line capacities are fully used and there is a need to develop a new waterborne export chain for different types of wet gas and condensate produced from gas field s on the Yamal Peninsula. Some projects are run by major oil companies on oil and gas shipment from Russian terminals. The Bergesen Worldwide Gas initiative will investigate a completely new transport chain which can be used for large gas fields far from existing pipeline infrastructure. The new approach will involve ship to ship transfer of gas. Bergesen Worldwide Gas ASA has done such operations involving smaller vessels for a long time in other parts of the world. Development of the transport chain involves three major challenges: - Designing an gas offloading terminal in waters with seasonal ice - Designing an ice breaking LNG carrier for shallow water operation - Designing, testing, verifying and validating an open sea ship to ship transfer syste m for LNG/LPG/condensate The pre project proposal will focus on the last challenge, ship to ship transfer of LNG/LPG. For this operation a number of themes need to be investigated such as: - Guidelines for safe ship to ship (STS) operation - Vessel cont rol under approach/separation manoeuvres - Vessel control during cargo transfer - Relative vessel motions - design of mooring system - Sloshing in partly filled cargo tanks - Motion of and forces in cryogenic loading hose The pre project will apply diffe rent R&D methodologies to specify most critical parameters for an at sea STS operation in Arctic waters. Bergesen Worldwide Gas ASA will based on pre project outcomes invite stakeholders to take part in development of the main project proposal.
