Nanoimprinter for Nanoscale Surface Structuring. Application of Nanoimprinting Lithography to Biological, Organic and Inorganic materials

Tildelt: kr 3,6 mill.

Nanoimprinter based techniques are today well established internationally, and versatile techniques within nanoscience and nanotechnology. One of the goals of NTNU NanoLab is to build up a national center of expertise on nanotechnology that can bring Norw egian research to an internationally competing level; hence an investment into NIL is central for such a quest. Nanoimrinting techniques have broad application area, from nano-structuring of inorganic surfaces for sensor and optical applications to direc t printing of surface structures in biologically relevant materials. Nanoimprinter is an essential tool for NTNU Nanolab, a clean-room facility for which one of the focus areas include integration of biological materials nanostructured materials. Access to this equipment located inside the new state-of-the-art laboratory facility will give researchers possibilities to probe nm-scale properties and device implementations including both solid-state and biological materials. Main advantages such an invest ment would bring are: 1. The possibility to structure scientifically and technologically important materials systems with nanometer resolution over large areas repeatedly. 2. The instrument opens for developing nanostructured devices, both for applied research such as sensor technology and fundamental studies of properties of nanoscale systems. It is especially important to note that the instrument is an important tool for integration of biological materials with solid-state supports, hence providing a n integration tool that will facilitate for researchers from different departments to meet, enabling cross-disciplinary research. 4. Access to the above-mentioned structuring technique on a regular basis.
