In the past decade, advances have been made in linguistic annotation of corpora. While corpus annotation before was restricted to morpho-syntactic and surface-syntactic phenomena, now a range of new phenomena, ranging from syntactic and semantic structure s to anaphora, and coreference are added. KUNSTI has contributed to this development in the context of several projects, e.g. TREPIL, LOGON and BREDT. However, results are project-dependent and different levels of annotation do not necessarily agree with each other. Recently, several forums (Frontiers in Annotation, Workshop on Merging and Layering Annotation at LREC-2006, NSF workshop on Unified Linguistic Annotation 2007) have raised the question, whether annotations can be integrated on a meta-level in order to make them more accessible. With a view to CLARIN, a large European initiative for an integrated and interoperable language research infrastructure, the workshop will link Norwegian and European
researchers with related initiatives on other conti nents.
The workshop will be held on Dec. 5-6, before the TLT'07 workshop in Bergen, with high-profile speakers by invitation only.
The Program Committee (preliminary) will consist of Gisle Andersen, Steven Bird, Francis Bond, Nicoletta Calzolari, Key-Su n Choi, Koenraad De Smedt, Alex Chengyu Fang, Rufus Gouws, Jan Hajic, Nancy Ide, Aravind Joshi, Steven Krauwer, Bente Maegaard, Martha Palmer, James Pustejovski, Takenobu Tokunaga, Bonnie Webber, Shuly Wintner, Andreas Witt, and Peter Wittenburg.
