Innovation, Knowledge And Managerial Strategy In Norwegian Retailing

Retailing is one of the fastest growing industries in the Norwegian economy with major impact on society, environment, technology, employment, women?s opportunities and internationalisation. Retailing represents more than 340 000 employees and is one of t he most important female workplaces. Yet, this is an under-researched area in Norway. This research seeks to analyse the major driving forces that either produce competence or is affected by it. I.e. we would like to analyse: -Human capital, recruitment, adverce selection and competence strategies. -The match between roles, organization and competence. -The effects of social and economic benefits and incentives and how this affects competence and knowledge. -Role systems and support roles/coaching. -The relationship between culture and conflicts. Conflict management systems and how conflicts affect trust and the development of knowledge. -Incentives and shirking problems that produce knowledge. Specifically we want to look at how networks and agglomerati on contributes to the imitation and creation of innovation The background theoretical perspectives will be: - Agency theory - Transaction Cost Theory - Trust Theory - Role Stress theory - Corporate Culture theory - Game theory - Agglomerat ion/network theory To look at the estimated performance effects of competence we applies different outcome variables derived from our previous research and journal publications: -Transaction costs (control costs, bargaining costs, maladaption costs). -Co sts related to marketing flows (distribution/logistics, information and transaction governance), -Improve the efficiency and effectivity in the marketing channels. -Increased productivity (cost/income ? analyses). -Increased service and product quality . -Increased operating results -Benchmarking, best case, relative performance and DEA- analyses (productivity analyses). -Net operating results and sales performance -Competence measures
