A petroleum geology cooperation between UTIG and UiS

Four main areas of research intend to be initiated during the visit of Dr. Paul Mann in Stavanger. 1.Petroleum Geology program, structural geology and subsurface interpretation, at the University of Stavanger: The design of a course in structural styles using subsurface data worldwide. We can benefit from Dr. Paul Mann's expertise in the areas of structural styles in active margins, strike-slip, tectonic setting of giant hydrocarbon fields in the world, etc. 2.International Ocean Drilling Program (IODP): As part of the proposed visit of Dr. Mann to Stavanger, we would like, upon available time, to develop a preliminary proposal to IODP for drilling in the Caribbean region that can help answering the different geologic problems associated with the interac tions of tectonics, climate and ocean circulation. 3.Collaboration into the Petrobar project: The Petroleum-related regional studies of the Barents Sea Region (Petrobar) is a multi-collaboration research project between Norwegian and Russian research inst itutes and universities that is funded by the Norwegian Research Council, the Norwegian Petroleum directorate and Statoil. UiS-IRIS contribution in to the Petrobar project includes the tectonic development and quantitative modeling of the region. This con tribution can benefit from the input of a regional research like Dr. Paul Mann during the proposed visit to UiS. 4.Establishment of industry consortia collaboration between UTIG and UiS-IRIS: UTIG has long term experience in applied research using the ind ustry funded consortia model in geosciences. Examples of these consortia are PLATES, GBDS, GIB and CBTH. A similar model of applied research in petroleum geology can be implemented at UiS in cooperation with UTIG. Expertise exchange between UTIG, UiS and IRIS is expected in the areas of regional geology, subsurface interpretation, petroleum systems and basin modeling.
