From Molecular Structures to Mechanical Properties: Multiscale Modelling for Ugelstad Particles (MS2MP)

Tildelt: kr 4,4 mill.

This project will further develop the highly successful work started in the NanoPCP project where the main focus has been to establish a state of art nanomechanical characterisation method for polymer particles with the intention to produce highly consist ent and reproducible results. As a result of this work, a number of interesting phenomena and questions have been raised with a strong interest from both fundamental and applied research. The focus of the MS2MP project will be to develop a better understa nding of these phenomena, and thereby be able to quantify and model these effects. The most central challenges in this project are to develop a multiscale modelling method based on the nanoscale molecular structures of the particles. The aim is to be able to predict the mechanical properties of the particles before manufacturing. Beside a significant interest from the fundamental science, this work will also have a very strong and direct interest from industrial applications. The project will provide fund amental knowledge for the industry to tailor-make polymer particles with suitable mechanical properties related to the different applications.
