Tildelt: kr 0,20 mill.

Exploring complementary advantages by making a twin arrangement between a Norwegian and a Chinese coastal region The main objective of this project is to start releasing expected mutual benefits of collaboration between two coastal districts with fisher ies background, one in Norway and one in China. The secondary objectives are to: a) explore the present situation of these two coastal regions, where the Norwegian part is gradually losing out in competition in fish processing employment and the Chinese part is taking over this type of work due mainly to low salaries and, at present, acceptable transportation costs b) identify other ways of ororganizing these patterns of globalization giving better results for both parties in terms of Corporate Social Re sponsibility (CSR), food safety, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and regional development for both parties c) construct a new model of exchange of people and raw materials between the two districts in dialogue with all partners, a model which viab ility might be tested in practice in a follow-up project. This project uses constructive sociology as a means to develop new and sustainable patterns of social organization. The targets are coastal regions in two countries with some of the world's most e xtreme differences in conditions. The base idea is that such differences give possibilities for synergies. This half-year project is a preparatory project only, aiming at bringing together a group of specially selected people from both countries, expert s from relevant fields of expertise that might design one or more new models of exchange. This first task requires input about local living conditions and relevant subgroups that might be matched. The characteristics of these coastal districts put the foc us on model components like fish processing work, adventure tourism, the diversity of small occupations, service industries in general, bilateral joint ventures and new use of available nature resources.
