A pre-project on novel materials for post combustion CO2-capture

Tildelt: kr 0,50 mill.

One of the novel innovative concepts to remove efficiently CO2 from flue gas is a sorption process where a dry regenerable solid sorbent is continuously circulating between two fluidized bed reactors. In the first reactor, CO2 is carbonated and captured i n a gas-solid reaction and, in a second step, CO2 is released by heating the formed compound in a regeneration reactor to produce a pure CO2-stream. Recently, the use of dry regenerable solid sorbents for CO2-capture at high or low temperature has receive d particular attention and is presented as a viable option and a clear alternative to conventional liquid solvents. The key factors in the further development of solid-based CO2-capture processes are the reaction kinetics, the cost and long-term durabilit y of the reactive solids, along with the development of technology to manage the large solid circulation rates. In the work proposed here, a new application to the CLIMIT program will be submitted in June 2009 on the solid sorbent. In order to strengthen the previous application a comprehensive litterature survey will be carried out in order to define the required research work for the development of novel high-performance CO2-sorbents. Feasibility tests will be performed on selected sorbents. Finally, an imprtant part of the work will be to establish a strong scientific network between research institutes and industrial partners to participate and support the research work.
