Behavioral and Institutional Components of Climate Change Policies

The success of climate change policies is influenced by many different factors, including a) acceptance of and behavioral responses to these policies, b) institutional constraints on the international and national levels, and c) scientific uncertainties. Dr. Kroll's visit at CICERO would provide him the opportunity to do research on all three factors. Purpose 1, conducting and analyzing experiments, is part of an ongoing research agenda with Steffen Kallbekken on the acceptance of environmental policies, particularly Pigouvian taxation and information measures. The research team plans to design, program and test the experiments in the first half of 2009 in order to conduct them and analyze their results during Dr. Kroll's visit in the summer. Purpose 2 is the conception and design of new sets of experiments. In particular, these experiments would address two topics, the "double-dividend hypothesis" and "two-level games." purpose 3 is to gain further insights from other disciplines on the topic of clima te change, and extend his interdisciplinary research skills and his understanding of climate change issues from different perspectives. CICERO provides an ideal opportunity for doing so. CICERO has climate change researchers from a wide range of disciplin es: natural sciences, economics, political science, sociology and anthropology.
