Fagområder:

The overall aim of this application is to establish a gut microbiota analytical pipeline serve both the pharmaceutical industry and governmental health authorities in epidemiological population screenings and clinical trials. In addition, the technology c an be used for early detection of undesirable conditions in the gut that can corrected before illnesses are manifested. The technology was developed and patented at the University of Oslo in 1998 (US patent no 6 617 138 Nucleic Acids Detection Methods). T he technology has since then been refined at Nofima Mat (Matforsk). Currently the technology is patented worldwide and all IP rights have now been transferred to Genetic Analysis AS (GA) which has been set up for commercialization of the technology. Thr ough the GA technology, we are able to develop a complete assay for adult gut microbiota, and for the first time offer such technology to the marketplace. The development of such an assay will be an important milestone for both GA and the world-wide biote ch and food industry interested in understanding the relationship between the gut microbiota and health. However, since such a tool that we will develop in this project is new and unproven, we also need to demonstrate the usefulness of such an assay in a real life application. We have chosen intervention of allergy through the mothers microflora as the target for the first application of this technology.
