NorStore - Norwegian Data Storage Infrastructure

Tildelt: kr 34,2 mill.

The objective of the NorStore initiative is to develop and operate a persistent, nationally coordinated infrastructure that provides non-trivial services to a broad range of scientific disciplines that have a variety of needs for storing and publishing di gital data. The infrastructure provides services for easy, secure and transparent access to geographically distributed storage resources, digital databases and collections, facilitates the creation and use of scientific repositories, provides large aggre gate capacities for storage and data transfer, and optimizes the utilization of the overall resource capacity that is available in the infrastructure. The NorStore infrastructure was established in 2007 to meet the increasing demand for capacity, skills and services for storing, sharing, publication and preservation of digital scientific data in various fields of research in Norway. The infrastructure was funded in part by a one-time grant from the Research Council of Norway and in part by the participat ing centres. The initial infrastructure was established in 2008. The operation of this initial infrastructure is currently defined until the end of 2011. The main objective of this application is to ensure the longevity and sustainability of the infrastr ucture, in particular the further development of the infrastructure, expansion of its functionality, and the long-term financing.
