Geosystem 3-D Seismic Imaging (G3)

Tildelt: kr 9,0 mill.

The P-Cable 3D Seismic system is a newly developed system for acquisition of high-resolution 3D data. The P-Cable system has been developed from idea to proven technology during the past eight years. It offers forefront marine technology developed by a co nsortium of Norwegian Universities and companies in cooperation with European partners. More than twelve surveys and several equipment tests have been successfully completed during this period. The benefit of the P-Cable system is that it is lightweight, flexible and mobile, and provides superior 3D seismic data with a lateral resolution that is at least an order of magnitude higher than conventional 3D seismic data. Building on the acquired knowledge and existing technology, we propose to purchase and in tegrate a fully operational and mobile P-Cable 3D seismic system that can be widely used by academia and industry in Norway. The P-Cable 3D seismic system will have a profound impact on Norwegian marine geological research and innovation as it will bring a wealth of new information and knowledge of geological subsurface structures and fluid flow processes that is crucial for deep water exploration and safety or understanding complex and dynamic geosystems of gas hydrates and fluid migration. Both research institutions and the industry will benefit from cost-efficient acquisition of high-resolution 3D seismic data. It may be used in both frontier and mature regions in an intelligent, versatile way to acquire successive small-size surveys (25 to 250 km^2).
