Coping with risk in maritime logistics - Managing risk, vulnerability and resilience in maritime logistics chains

Tildelt: kr 0,12 mill.

Objective of the project: to develop new competence that will improve our ability to approach, analyse and manage the risks and vulnerabilities that arise when ship-owners wish to take a more formal and comprehensive part in sea transport systems. The res earch tasks taken up by this project will address survivability aspects of maritime logistics from different angles, but all will aim in sum to establish efficient and robust or resilient maritime logistics services Research approach: vulnerability and r esilience approach, which will address the generic, overall process. The focus of the vulnerability analysis is the short- and long-term survivability of the system or the system mission, i.e. the system's resilience. This implies a wider set of threats an d consequences than a risk analysis, and a wider scope that covers the adequacy of mitigating and stabilizing resources and the time-factor up to when the system re-establishes stability Research tasks:seven main topics - Vulnerability and resilience of the global shipping system; Risk and vulnerability taxonomies in maritime logistics; Maritime logistics law; Fleet and chain planning and optimization under uncertainty; Vulnerability and resilience in logistics IT systems; Vulnerability and mitigation an alysis in maritime logistics; Safety Management Systems
