Novel carbenoid chemistry

Tildelt: kr 2,8 mill.

Halogenation reactions are of great practical importance within the field of synthetic organic chemistry, and halogenated molecules can have highly advantageous biological properties. For instance, fluorinated and chlorinated molecules are frequently enco untered both in drug design and among naturally occurring pharmaceutically active compounds. Our research group has recently developed a new, green method for generation of electrophilic transition-metal carbenoid precursors containing halogens. Electroph ilic transition-metal carbenoids are valuable intermediates in organic synthesis, used for example in the preparation of various natural products and pharmaceuticals agents. We have explored the utilisation of the halogenated carbenoids as a novel way of selectively introducing halogens. The aim of this project is to generate a variety of new halogenated and boronated carbenoid precursors, and to develop methods for their application in carbon-carbon bond forming reactions. This will broaden the range of easily accessible halogenated and boronated molecular building blocks. An additional goal is to develop methods for the use of these building blocks in further transformations. The expected findings of this project will be useful tools in organic chemistr y.
