The Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change (IPPC) Working Group III: Mitigation of Climate Change has ordered an "IPCC Special Report on Renewable Energy Sources and Climate Change Mitigation (SRREN)". The SRREN aims at a comprehensive assessment of r enewable energy technologies and related policy and financial instruments by providing substantial new information, analyses, and evidence reported in the literature on the technological development and deployment, regional assessments, environmental, soc ioeconomic and sustainability impacts, cost reductions, and the practical experience with the implementation of renewable energies. The SRREN-report will be finalized and published in late 2010 - early 2011. The work on the SRREN-report started with a kic k-off meeting in Sao Paulo, Brazil, January 2009, and was followed up with a meeting in Oslo, Norway, September 2009 hosted by SFT. IPCC WG3 has appointed Norwegian three experts/scientists to work on the SRREN: Tormod Schei (Statkraft) as Coordinating le ad author on Chapter 5, Ånund Killingtveit (NTNU)as Lead author to Chapter 5, Øystein Ulleberg (IFE) as Lead author to Chapter 8. The Norwegian Pollution Control Authority (SFT) is focal point for IPCC in Norway, coordinate the review process, take part i n the final approval in the IPCC WGIII plenary and coordinate the information efforts including translation of the key indings/summary. In 2009 the Norwegian authors participated in the first two meetings (Brazil and SFT,Norway), and contributed in the wr iting of a zero order draft (ZOD). This project aims at ensuring participation at the next 4 international meetings planned in 2010/2011, writing of the first, second draft and the final report, participation in the adoption review and adoption of the dra fts and to inform the Norwegian audience about the key findings in the report. This will give a significant Norwegian contribution to the writing of the report and the review process.
