China: Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Sustainable Energy' between Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and NTNU

Tildelt: kr 0,45 mill.

The JRC Agreement is a result of a long term development which started in 2004. The close cooperation we have enjoyed with Innovation Norway and the Research Council of Norway (supported by BILAT projects) culminated with this JRC Agreement signed during NTNUs Rector Delegation to China on May 26. The ambition of the JRC is to join the efforts and resources of the partners to arise a world-leading scientific and technological collaborative research, innovation and education center for sustainable energy. The following thematic research areas have been included in the JRC-agreement as candidate working areas: -Gas technology to support utilization of natural gas to substitute coal (LNG technology) - Carbon Capture and Storage - use of CO2 as working fluid - Renewable energy (solar energy, wind energy) - Energy use in Buildings/Zero Emission Buildings (energy efficiency) - Energy System Analysis and Sustainable Energy Studies (realize sustainable energy solutions, energy scenarios etc.) These areas have b een selected to support important energy strategies in China, and they correspond well with NTNUs activities within the national Centers for Environment-Friendly Energy Research (FME), CenSES (strategic energy studies), CREATIVE-project (Energy efficiency ) and Natural gas technology. To initiate the Joint Research Centres agreements, joint workshops at SJTU and NTNU will be arranged to i) Bring forward long term goals and strategies for the development of the JRC, including a 'model project' ii) Agre e upon and bring forward plans for joint projects (both research and education) within the thematic research areas which have been identified in the JRC Agreement iii) Identify relevant financing sources and prepare applications for joint projects with f unding from China and Norway iv) Identify industrial companies which may be long term partners of the JRC The Centre Management is responsible for the project and a Board will be constituted.
