China: Sino-Norwegian network on applied research on CO2 storage

The project shall establish a bi-national network of expertise in the storage aspects of the CCS chain. Within the scope of the project, the network aims to identify gaps that delay an industrial implementation of CO2 storage in China and Norway. Possible R&D actions to close these gaps shall be outlined as a basis for future research proposals. Main emphasis will be placed on improving the efficiency of CO2 storage in terms of site selection, injection strategy and monitoring. We envisage a long-term pa rtnership and collaboration between Norwegian and Chinese researchers to bring industrial-sized CCS on the way in both countries. The outcome of this pursuit will be basically threefold: 1) synergy from knowledge sharing at the highest scientific level ( concentrated around two Workshops), 2) a dossier summarizing significant gaps and cost reducing measures with associated R&D actions, and 3) directions for one or more project proposals for further joint R&D work on CCS. If appropriate the latter may res pond to a suitable call for proposals, provided such call is open for bi-lateral undertakings between Norway and China.
