China: Novel ideas and materials for next generation solar cells via Norwegian-Chinese collaboration

Tildelt: kr 0,50 mill.

We suggest building a collaborative NextG network exploring novel, so called 3rd generation solar cell ideas and materials calling for contributions from leading Norwegian and Chinese scientists in the field. Such network is expected to enhance the intern ational impact of the research conducted in the frame of the FME SolarUnited consortium (the network partner) contributing to the Norway?s role and responsibilities as a leading player in the global energy sphere. Importantly, the project is equally attra ctive for solar cell R&D effort demonstrated by our distinguished Chinese colleagues where the solar cell activity is currently growing with astonishing momentum. In terms of the business-academic interaction it is specifically materialized into establish ing of a Clean Energy Lab in Beijing and a Joint Solar Energy Lab in Shanghai (both are the network partners) uniting prime calibre scientists and rapidly growing businesses. The major source of the costs are to provide additional funding in connection wi th mutual visits of PhDs, post-docs and researchers to/from Norway/China and organizing a joint summer school/workshop in the scope of NextG.
