Teaching and learning in higher education. From policies to educational practises in the digital era.

Tildelt: kr 0,30 mill.

This project examines the relationship between learning aims, subject content and digital teaching, working, and assessment methods in higher education. The project is divided into two sub-studies and these have in common that they both focus on pedagogic al and didactical aspects of digital learning contexts in higher education. In addition, they are both based on the assumption that the underlying premises for teaching and learning are changing in higher education as a consequence of the digital revolutio n and implementation of new international standards. This has become more pressing as a result of the Bologna process (1998, 2005, 2007) and the new Framework for Qualifications (MOK, 2010). At the same time digital competence has been highlighted in as o ne of eight key competencies in EU's policy document "Lifelong learning" (2007) and in Norway this has become the fifth basic competence in the new teacher education (MOK, 2010). Therefore, the underlying premises for teaching and learning are changing an d this creates considerable challenges for the pedagogical conditions at the universities. This calls for a more in-depth consideration of how teachers teach and learners learn in the digital era as well as how it this is reflected in learning aims, subje ct content and teaching- and working methods in higher education. To examine these research areas the project employs different kinds of theoretical lenses - from cognitive psychology to a socio-cultural perspective on learning and will use both quantitat ive - and qualitative methods, based on principles of Mixed Methods Design (Johnson et al. 2008). The main foreseen impact is on the innovative technological and pedagogical aspects attached to the sub-studies. However, a much wider impact is possible, if the research group receives funding from NRC in this pre project application. Therefore, our research group has developed strategy plan for the next three years with longitudinal milestones (see att. strategy plan)
