Rapid market introduction of new membrane technology for clean energy applications: upgrading the ProboStat with ceramic proton conductors

Tildelt: kr 1,00 mill.

Commercialization of functional materials for energy conversion will typically need a long term perspective of 5 to 25 years, as well as substantial investments typically above 100 million NOK to reach maturity. The underlying NANOMAT co-financed project that serves as a base for the present application, FABPRO, is aimed at developing new manufacturing technology for protonic ceramics to be used in key energy applications, such as CO2-capture, hydrogen production and catalytic membrane reactors for synthe tic fuels from gas-to-liquid (GTL) processes. The present application does not aim to have a major impact on energy industries directly, but seeks an indirect market introduction, by developing and demonstrating a family of ProboStat based membrane reacto rs for the petrochemical catalyst development marketplace. This proof-of-product can be achieved quickly (within 12 months) and at a low cost (2.2 million NOK). Product sales of NOK 14 million is expected with 12 months after completion of the project. T he project will also help promote future large-scale applications for proton conducting membranes in clean energy applications. Project manager is Protia AS with NorECs Norwegian Electro Ceramics AS as the go-to-market partner.
