Network Conference on Product Life Extension: Knowledge Transfer between Clothing and Consumer Electronics

Tildelt: kr 99 999

The point of departure in this conference recognizes product obsolescence as one of the primary contributing factors for the current level of waste generation and material extraction. Despite the documented benefits associated with obsolescence, we emphas is product life extension as a deterrent for the environmental harm associated with the production, use and disposal of products. In particular, we wish to explore the benefits associated with product longevity from the clothing and consumer electronics i ndustries. The aim of this conference is to revitalize the product-oriented approach to sustainable production and consumption from an environmental perspective. This requires a form of knowledge brokerage best facilitated through a conference. Despite t he different research groups in Norway concerned with product life extension, little networking has occurred. By arranging a conference on this topic in Norway, we seek to strengthen this area of research and generate new insights to confront both resourc e use challenges and waste problems. The conference consists of two days: presentations about clothing and consumer electronics followed by theoretical perspectives of obsolescence and a roundtable discussion. We intend to invite speakers from the clothi ng and consumer electronics industries, top researchers in the field of product life extension and researcher specialists from SIFO. The roundtable discussion at the end of the conference will permit speakers and participants to discuss possible strategie s to address product obsolescence. Intended participants for this conference include a diverse spectrum of researchers with expertise across the lifecycle of the aforementioned products, Norwegian NGOs and Norwegian private enterprises.
